EXPRESSING THE TRUTH OF YOM KIPPUR AS A PRESENTATION OF THE GOSPEL TO JEWISH PEOPLE

The gospel message can be found in the each of the Feasts of the Lord.  Yom Kippor/ the Day of Atonement contains a message that can powerfully impact Jewish people. Through the meaning of Yom Kippur the message of the Messiah can be communicated in a context that Jewish people can readily understand. 

BACKGROUND OF YOM KIPPUR

Even secular Jews are familiar with Yom Kippur.  It is one of the only two days all year, along with Rosh Hashanah, when most Jewish people will attend synagogue.  These are the High Holy Holidays. The theme of the High Holy Holiday season has to do with God[s sovereignty and judgment. In Judaism, Yom Kippur is considered the holiest day of the year.  The period of time from Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur are called the 10 days of awe  It is during this time that Jews are supposed to examine themselves in preparation for Yom Kippur which is the Day of Atonement. Jewish people fast on Yom Kippur from sundown to sundown. This fast in the minds of most Jewish people is an appeal for God to forgive their sins.  Observant Jews spend all day in the synagogue where the Machzor is read.  The Machzor is a book as thick as the bible devoted to the liturgy and prayers for this one day.  Imagine an entire volume for only one day! That is how important Yom Kippur is.
The way Yom Kippor is observed today is unlike the way it was observed when the temple stood in Jerusalem.  In fact today it is impossible to observe Yom Kippor the way it is supposed to be observed according to scripture, unless you know the Messiah! 

The only way Yom Kippur can be observed in modern times is for one to understand that Israel does have a High Priest today! Messiah has come and the priesthood of Israel has passed into his hands. He continues to this day to function as the Eternal High Priest (Kohen Gadol) of Israel!
