The Greatest Enemy of Salvation: Our own apathy!

13 August 2010 One Comment

The message of salvation has the power to transform lives and change the world. With certainty the enemy of our souls will do whatever he can to prevent the proclamation of the word of God. However the greatest enemy of the spreading of the truth is found within our own hearts. We have become lukewarm at best, mostly cold as ice!  That sounds harsh. But is it true?

This must change. It will. It must begin with you and me. Out of the four major spiritual disciplines sharing our faith with others typically takes the back seat. We know we need to pray, read the word of God and have interaction with others who share our faith.  However, speaking  words of life and hope to a dying world is not the habit most of us embrace. Is this true? Ever wonder why?

We live in a dangerous country.  Why do I say this?  In America we inundated with creature comforts.  Even in this economic downturn I do not know anyone who is going hungry or who lives on the street.  I realize that there are Americans who suffer from both but I just do not know any of them.

In the midst of our comfort it is hard to imagine there is coming a day when all will stand before the judgement seat of the Almighty. It almost seems like a myth yet we know in our minds it is true. There is no sense of urgency to tell others about God’s plan to deliver us from the coming judgement. When we receive the gift of salvation it is for ourselves.  Yeshua becomes “our own personal Lord and Savior”.  We somehow put it out of our minds that our neighbors and those we come into contact with every day may be heading toward a Godless eternity.

I think it has to do with how we are discipled once we get saved. I was discipled by a man named Eugene Boldman and he was a street evangelist. And he lived up to his name. He was in his 70′s when I met him. He led my grandfather to the Lord when I and my grandmother invited him to dinner. Eugene’s main technique was to go out with his Bible and tracts. He would give the tracts to people usually with some pithy statement to catch the person’s attention. He would grab opportunities to talk to people beyond handing them a tract. It’s funny because I am by nature a very timid person. I have not always witnessed like I should and I have missed many opportunities but I do witness to people. It is just something that has been engrained into me. I am looking forward to seeing Eugene again one day. He often prayed that I would lead many souls to the Lord.
